Product Description
Before ordering Hardwood logs we ask you to consider our Softwood logs along with our Champfleurie Briquettes. Most Firewood suppliers in Scotland have had difficulty getting hardwoods this year. They usually have to be imported at up to twice the price they were 2 years ago.
Softwoods on the other hand are home grown and more sustainable. The perception that hardwoods burn better than softwoods is nonsense, both have the same calorific value relative to weight and moisture content. Moreover,
If you mix our softwood logs with our briquettes (see the Lairds Choice Softwoods on our website) you will get more heat than from hardwood logs and save money. Our Air-Dried Softwood Logs are about 25% cheaper. Click here to go to the Air-Dried Softwood Logs
**COMBINATION OF WOOD FUELS FOR A HOTTER, CLEANER FIRE**
Further to our section on 'What the Laird Recommends' we have put together a package which consists of 1 x Giant Builder's Bag of Air-Dried, Woodsure Approved, Ready To Burn Hardwood Logs and 10 x 10kg Pack Champfleurie Briquettes, the ideal ratio for a mix of these two woodfuels. **The 10 packs of Briquettes are equivalent to another builders bag of logs, making the Laird's Choice very good value for money**
We have discounted the briquettes to encourage you to try his recommendation. The Laird is sure you will not be disappointed.
STORING THE LOGS AND BRIQUETTES
How you store these logs after we deliver them is very important. They should be removed from the bags as soon as possible (preferably the same day) and stored in a dry well ventilated place. Do not store these logs in the bag. Always store briquettes in a dry place.
BURNING THE LOGS
For the very best results we thoroughly recommend burning our logs with our briquettes which when combined will produce more heat than hardwood logs on their own. We recommend using about two thirds log and one third briquette. This way you will get a hotter fire that will last longer.
If you normally mix logs with coal why not try our briquette logs to replace the coal.
Note: By popular request we now include the smaller off-cuts in the bag as well as whole logs. These do not detract from the amount of good logs in each bag as they are random filled from our processing machine and fill the space left between the larger logs.
This is confirmed by the fact the bags are now at least 10% heavier than they were without the off-cuts.
The value of the off-cuts is first of all in saving the amount of kindling required to get a fire going and secondly for re-kindling a fire that has gone too low to get it going again by simply throwing on a whole log.
To get your fire going, see our selection of firelighters.
DELIVERY
**Free delivery within 5 miles of the estate (EH49 6NB). Please call 01506 847999 for details of carriage charges outwith 5 miles**
For giant builders bags and pallets, premises must have driveway access or be suitable for offloading by 3 metre lorry crane. Where possible the driver will do their best to get the bag/pallet as close as possible to your property. If not suitable then the best option is kerbside delivery or net bags.
For delivery over 30 miles from the estate the only viable option is the Double Giant Bag, the price of which includes the delivery charge anywhere on the UK mainland.
THE DRYING PROCESS
Air dried naturally down to between 15% and 20% moisture and cut to 8" in length.
Our Woodsure Approved Air-Dried logs are made ready-to-burn using Mother Nature in our latest air drying process.
Cut trees are fully seasoned naturally using only sun and wind in our new open-ended polytunnels where we have seen the overall moisture content down as low as 10-15% before being processed into cut logs resulting in the same moisture content and quality of log as the kiln-dried logs.
Environmental and financial advantage - no kilns involved which produce massive amounts of CO2 and make the logs much more expensive to produce.
Important - Builder's Bag Price Comparison
When comparing prices of a 'builders bag' of logs please be aware. There are a number of different sizes of 'builders bags' on the market and we have discovered many suppliers are using an 80cm x 80cm x 80cm bag.
The reason we refer to our bags as Giant Builders Bags is they are much larger and hold over 40% more logs. We also over-fill them to make sure you are getting more than what the bag would normally hold. The logs are dropped into the bags from a hopper and mechanically shaken a few times while filling so with the bag stretched to its limit and over-filled we know that it holds around 0.9 of a cubic metre.
When you take this into account you will see you get much more value for money from our Giant Builders Bags.
We''ll let you to do the maths...
